Post Cabinet highlights - April 7, 2016

April 7, 2016: On Thursday April 7, Cabinet agreed to:

 The Prime Minister’s travel and attendance at the following:

1. WASHINGTON, May 2

Dr. the Honourable Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago will travel to Washington with members of the CARICOM Secretariat to meet with the Vice President of the United States, the Honourable Joe Biden. The focus of this trip is to discuss energy and security matters at a summit scheduled for May 3 and 4. The summit is a continuation of talks between the United States and the Caribbean Central American Energy Security Task Force.

 

2. NEW YORK, May 5

The Prime Minister travels to New York to deliver the key note address at the Medgar Evers College’s First Annual Awards Dinner Recognising Individuals and Corporate Contributions. Trinidad and Tobago nationals make up 23% of the college’s international student population.

 

3. LONDON, May 7

The Prime Minister will visit London to meet with the Group Chief Executive of BP, Robert Dudley to continue discussions begun earlier on the hydrocarbon sector. The Prime Minister will be joined in London by the Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, the Honourable Nicole Olivierre.

 

4. REPUBLIC OF GHANA, May 8-11

Upon the official invitation of the President of Ghana, His Excellency, Dr. John Dramani Mahama, the Prime Minister, accompanied by representatives of the private sector, will lead bilateral discussions which will focus on various issues including banking, governance, institutional corporation, technological transfer and energy sector related investments.

 

5. LONDON, May 12-13

The Prime Minister travels back to London to attend the London AntiCorruption Summit. The summit will be attended by various world leaders and will facilitate international conversations on ways to improve information flow to combat international corruption, among other things. The Prime Minister was officially invited by UK Prime Minister, David Cameron and will be joined by the Honourable Stuart Young from May 12.

On May 13, Prime Minister Dr. Rowley will meet with Heads of various UK Anti-Corruption Agencies.

 

 The extension of BHP Billiton’s gas sales contract as it pertains to the Angostura fields Block 2C. As a result of the successful production of gas from the field and the increased productivity, BHP Billiton requested an extension in the gas supply contract to the National Gas Company (NGC).

This extension increases the availability of gas from 2021 to 2026 and will positively offset the impending gas shortage.
