November 20, 2017: In recognition of Universal Children’s Day 2017, the Ministry of Education takes this opportunity to reiterate its commitment to quality, accessibility and equity in education while celebrating the achievements of the future of this nation. Since 1954, the United Nations has advocated the observance of Universal Children’s Day to promote and celebrate children's rights. The Ministry of Education will continue to adhere to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which includes the right to education.
Citizens of Trinidad and Tobago can be proud as we are one of the few countries in the world that offers Universal Early Childhood Care and Education, Primary and Secondary education to all children. This, the Government will continue to uphold and advance to provide our children with the best possible opportunities in this dynamic global community.
The Ministry also affirms its commitment to Parenting in Education to ensure that parents are equipped with the necessary skills to rare children who are holistically developed while supporting their growth and success through education. The examples that are set by parents and the adults who are the role models that our children emulate, must be examples of quality in every regard be it morally, spiritually, academically or professionally.
Minister of Education, Anthony Garcia holds fast to the view that “a harmonious relationship among the child, parents, the school and the community is what it takes to engender in our young people the ideals that will make them exemplary citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.”
