Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (the Authority), wishes to clarify that the robbery that occurred today at 11:25 a .m. at the cargo facility on the Golden Grove Road, of the Piarco International Airport, did not take place on the airport tarmac. It should be noted that the incident took place within an area with public access where persons conduct commercial cargo business.
The incident took place at the time when the custody of cash was being transferred from Amalgamated Security Services to an airline security company within the public area of the cargo compound.
Contrary to all reports, it must be reiterated that there was no breach of the restricted secured areas of the Piarco International Airport and the incident did not take place on the tarmac. The Authority's Security Force responded in less than two minutes to initial reports.
The Authority assures that the safety and security of all aircraft and passengers were not compromised during the incident. The Authority continues to cooperate with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service as the investigation proceeds.
