Over the past two weeks, the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government has been reaching out to corporate volunteers and sponsors to collect donations for our Christmas Drive. This initiative commenced on Saturday 16th December, 2017 and was completed on Tuesday, with Minister Haji Kazim Hosein and Ministry officials making home visits to personally deliver hampers to families across Trinidad.
Last week, volunteers from the Civilian Conservation Corps joined with corporate volunteer, Dumore Enterprises to assist representatives from the Ministry with sorting and packaging of hampers for distribution. Over 150 hampers were prepared with non-perishables, household items and school supplies as well as over 200 Christmas Treat Bags filled with goodies for the kids.
Minister Haji Kazim Hosein commended the unreserved contributions from Corporate Trinidad and volunteers saying, “The support that we at the Ministry continue to receive from persons across the country who are willing to contribute is very overwhelming and we continue to extend profound thanks to all donors for making initiatives such as these possible. Sponsors such as the Kiss Baking Company, SM Jaleel, Sun Delight – Ad Bags, Universal Foods, Sunshine Snacks, Unilever, and volunteers from the Civilian Conservation Corps, the various Municipal Corporations as well as all corporate volunteers, like Dumore and JohnCorp; we are extremely grateful for your contributions as we continue to work together for the benefit of the people of our beloved country.”
The Ministry, with the assistance of corporate volunteers distributed Christmas hampers to over 100 families across the 14 Municipalities with the hope that these contributions will assist them during this joyous season. Minister Hosein continues to embolden citizens to give back to their communities saying, “This is a great time to give back and I encourage all persons both young at heart and the younger generation to use this Christmas time to extend a helping hand to the less fortunate in your neighbourhoods. Let’s put a smile on the faces of children who may not be as privileged and teach our future leaders the key values of charity, love and appreciation. It is through giving that we receive and there is a great joy in giving to others and bringing cheer, especially to children.”
