Major infrastructural works are required at Carapichaima East Secondary School and the Ministry of Education is treating this project as a priority in order to have all students back to school. Among the major areas to be addresses are the school’s hall, cafeteria, library and Tech Block O.
The Honourable Anthony Garcia, Minister of Education invited all stakeholders including Ms. Ramona Ramdial, Member of Parliament for Couva North for a meeting at the school on Tuesday 23rd January 2018 and discussed plans to address the problems affecting classes. Among the other stakeholders present were TTUTA President Lynsley Doodhai and NPTA President, Raffiena Ali-Boodoosingh.
Currently, priority of accommodation is being given to students of Forms Five (5) and Six (6) who are preparing for Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE), who have to complete School Based Assessments (SBA). Some students are being accommodated in the library at the neighbouring Carapichaima West Secondary School, while Science students will have access to lab facilities at Chaguanas North Secondary School. The school administration has also made arrangements for students to access the Chaguanas and Couva Public Libraries.
Commenting on the major infrastructural repairs required, Minister Anthony Garcia advised that because of the magnitude of the project and the large sums of funding required, the approval of Cabinet will be required to obtain the financial releases from the relevant Ministry.
Classes at the school have been affected since 8th January, 2018 after teachers and students complained of health and safety issues because of a pigeon infestation problem.
