The residents of Mootoo/ Maharaj Lands in Vistabella are the latest beneficiaries of T&TEC’s Public Lighting Programme. The facility located at Mootoo/ Maharaj Lands, Roy Avenue, Vistabella is now illuminated with the installation of 72, 1500 – watt floodlights mounted on six 21- meter poles.

In commissioning the new facility, Public Utilities Minister Senator Robert Le Hunte, said the light will allow for greater participation by residents in recreational and other community events well into the evening. He added, one of the primary driving forces behind the Ministry’s thrust in the provision of these facilities is the adoption of healthier lifestyles by members of the communities that use them.

Minister Le Hunte urged the residents to use the new lights wisely, since they come at a cost to the taxpayers of the country, funded under the Public Sector Investment Programme.

Also participating in the commissioning ceremony were Member of Parliament for San Fernando East, Randal Mitchell, Mayor of San Fernando, His Worship Mayor Junia Regrello and Councillor for Marabella South/ Vistabella, Phillip Montano.

T&TEC’s Deputy Chairman, Glenford Cyrille, said other upgrade work in the Southern City are designed to improve the reliability of supply to south Trinidad. He said the St. Joseph 12 kv feeder was upgraded in 2017 to cater for load growth in the area, while other feeder upgrades from the Reform Substation to the South Park and C Three Complexes are ongoing., with the South Park upgrade scheduled for completion in the next few months.

This, he added, will enhance the reliability of supply to customers in St. Joseph Village, Tarouba, Cocoyea and Marabella.

Other planned infrastructure development will include: upgrades to the feeder out of Harmony Hall and the Lady Hailes Substation.  These projects will improve the reliability of supply to customers in San Fernando, Vistabella and Marabella, including the San Fernando General Hospital and other major nursing homes in the area.
