April 21, 2016: The tagline “More than just music” says it all.
The Tobago Jazz Experience is not just about having a good time, but also impacting the tourism and music industries.
One of the ways the event has done so is through its 'Edujazz' Workshop, geared towards increasing interest in young aspiring musicians and vocalists. The event was held on Monday and Tuesday (April 18-19) at the Scarborough Library Facility.
Chairman of the Jazz Experience Committee, John Arnold said the workshop has a number of objectives. According to him “the aim of the workshop is one, to make the children aware of tourism and why we do the festival, and two, building capacity in terms of passing on some of the skills from the practitioners who have been really good in the arts…”
Jazz vocalist and presenter at the Edujazz Workshop, Vaughnette Bigford explains what was covered.
Bigford said: “It was basically giving tips on voice training and vocal jazz. It was really good; a lot of them knew what I was talking about and with some of them you could tell they can sing, so it was really good.”
