The Gender Affairs Division of the Office of the Prime Minister will be hosting its third Barbershop session on Saturday 12th May 2018 at the Five Rivers Community Centre.
This programme aims to create a setting for male-to-male discussions on issues which impact men and boys. Men between the ages 14+ living in the Five Rivers area are invited to attend.
The Barbershop Session is just one of the programmes aimed at addressing issues affecting men, women, boys and girls. The programme brings together males aged 14 years and older from within communities in a barbershop type space where they discuss, deconstruct and positively reconstruct various issues affecting men within their communities such as male/female relationships, attitudes and stereotypes, masculinity, male responsibility to family and community, domestic violence to name a few.
These sessions are aimed at training a cadre of men and boys from the Community to continue the dialogue among themselves on the issues affecting them, their families and the community, with the goal to solve gender related problems and develop gender in their community.
The Office of the Prime Minister encourages those men and boys who are interested in being a part of the Barbershop to be part of the training. Members of the public should visit the Barbershop on the Gender and Child Affairs website (www.opm-gca.gov.tt) and Facebook page (facebook.com/genderandchildaffairs) for more information on this initiative and when it will be available in a community near you.
