Minister of Social Development and Family Services, the Honourable Cherrie-Ann Crichlow-Cockburn, today, August 20, 2018, paid a visit to Stacy Ann Parris, a 39-year old paraplegic at her Woodbrook residence, in an effort to offer further assistance to enhance her living conditions. The visit came following a media report on Parris’ situation, over the weekend.

As a client of the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services Ms Parris currently receives the disability assistance and food support grants.  She informed that she had applied to the Housing Development Company some years ago and has been placed on an emergency listing.  Minister Crichlow-Cockburn gave a commitment  to follow up with the HDC on Parris’ behalf.  In the interim, the Minister outlined the other support services available from the Ministry  for which Ms. Parris may be eligible.

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services remains committed to its responsibility of addressing the social challenges of poverty, social inequality and social exclusion. The Ministry’s key strategic objectives include promoting public awareness and providing advocacy and support for persons with disabilities, toward their increased participation and realisation of their full potential.
