Today, Minister of National Security the Honourable Stuart Young gave a mandate to intelligence, investigative and legal officers from the National Security community to work diligently, professionally and in the spirit of togetherness to disrupt and counter terrorism, violent extremism and other forms of crime.

The Minister made this clarion call while speaking at the closing ceremony of a Counter Terrorism Investigation Workshop at the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs (AGLA) Towers, Corner Richmond and London Streets. The two-week workshop was a collaborative initiative between the Ministry of National Security, Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs and the British High Commission in Trinidad and Tobago and facilitated by the International Institute for Justice. The workshop comprised of scenario-based exercises in Strategy Formulation, Intelligence, Investigation and Prosecution which encouraged the participants of the various stakeholder agencies to work together effectively to counter the threat of terrorism.

Minister Young further stated that he has been formulating a revised structure on how this country will be treating with countering terrorism in light of the evolving transnational security concerns. This revised structure will clearly define the role and function of all National Security Agencies in an integrated framework.

The Minister encouraged workshop participants to recognise the critical role they play in protecting and securing the people of Trinidad and Tobago and urged them not to underestimate the value that they bring to the national security environment. The Minister encouraged the officers to continue to strengthen and sustain institutional partnerships.

Minister Young expressed his appreciation to British High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago, His Excellency Tim Stew for his country’s expertise and long standing collaboration on matters of national security.
