ADVERSE WEATHER ALERT CANCELLATION -
RIVERINE FLOOD ALERT AND HAZARDOUS SEAS ALERT STILL IN EFFECT
The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has cancelled the Adverse Weather Alert #3 for today (Friday 16th November, 2018) at 2:38 p.m. Weather conditions have returned to Green Level.
TTMS indicates that conditions have settled over Trinidad and Tobago. However, a few lingering showers will continue overnight and a low chance of thunderstorms are expected in a few areas tomorrow (Saturday 17th November, 2018). The TTMS has also advised that flooding will take some time to subside in areas that were adversely affected. The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) would like persons to continue to be vigilant and take the necessary precautions to preserve life and property. Persons are advised to protect themselves and family members while engaging in clean-up activities.
The Riverine Flood Alert #1 – Orange Level remains in effect for communities located along Trinidad’s main river courses and associated tributaries for the period Thursday 15th November, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. to Friday 16th November, 2018 at 6:00 p.m.
The Hazardous Seas Alert #1 – Yellow Level remains in effect for coastal and offshore waters of Tobago and the eastern coastline of Trinidad for the period Wednesday 14th November, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. to Saturday 17th November, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.
The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) would like residents and visitors to ‘Get Ready and Stay Ready’ by implementing the following safety measures:
- After heavy rainfall, stay inside until water levels have subsided;
- Do not walk, play or drive through flood waters of unknown depth and current;
- If you must walk through a flood, use a stick to determine the firmness of the ground as well as the depth of the water in front of you;
- Wear personal protective equipment, including rubber boots, rubber gloves and goggles during clean-up of affected areas. Wear closed-toe shoes, long-sleeves and full-length pants;
- Keep children and pets out of the affected area until clean-up has been completed.
- Thoroughly clean all hard surfaces (such as flooring, concrete, molding, wood and metal furniture, countertops, appliances, sinks and other plumbing fixtures) with hot water and household bleach solution;
- After completing the clean-up, wash your hands properly with soap and clean water.
