Health centres across Trinidad and Tobago have continued the flu vaccination drive which began in November, 2018 with the launch of the new 2019 flu vaccine.
The redistribution of the supply of doses of the flu vaccine from areas of low demand to areas of high demand has helped to address the waiting times caused by the surge in the public demand for the vaccine last week.
The Ministry of Health continues to urge persons who fall into key at-risk groups to get vaccinated. Persons in the at-risk-groups are:
- Children aged 6 months to 5 years
- Pregnant women
- Adults over 65
- Persons with chronic medical conditions (such as Diabetes Mellitus)
- Persons with chronic respiratory illnesses (such as Asthma)
Members of the public are advised to call the health centres in their area for flu vaccination schedules and other related information.
The Ministry of Health will continue to monitor the supply and distribution of influenza vaccines closely. All arrangements have been put in place for the procurement of 30,000 additional doses of the vaccine, in the first instance, through the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO).
