The Ministry of Tourism through Udecott has started the demolition of all dilapidated and unsightly vendor’s booths at Maracas Beach Facility.
This as Tourism Minister Honourable Randall Mitchell and a team from the ministry, along with officials from Udecott, led by its Strategic Business Unit Manager, Alisha Romano, visited the Facility on March 14, 2019 to get a first-hand view of the corrective works being done.
In December 2018, Udecott, obtained an administration and management contract for the facility and have been doing corrective works towards the upgrading and enhancement the facility.
The old wastewater treatment plant at the beach facility has also been demolished and a new one, located close to the car park, has been constructed.
Minister Mitchell said he was satisfied that work is proceeding in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
He said he remained confident that the Maracas Beach Facility will be upgraded to an internationally accepted standard when the work is completed. Maracas is one of the most popular sites visited by tourists and nationals of this country and Mitchell said an upgraded Maracas Beach Facility will be a significant boost to one of the country’s tourism offerings.
During the past three months the beach has been significantly cleared of debris, including fallen trees.
Udecott’s Facilities Management Contract provides for oversight of grounds maintenance, vendors, and security services. Under the contract, Udecott to be responsible for general events management, landscaping and garbage removal at Maracas Beach Facility.
