May 11, 2016: The official visit to Ghana by the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr the Honourable Keith Rowley, and his delegation continued today (Tuesday 10th May 2016).

The day’s proceedings began with the official delegation paying a visit to the George Padmore Memorial Library located in Ridge, Accra.

George Padmore was a Trinidad and Tobago born intellectual who was a valued advisor and friend of Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah. The library visit also included a wreath laying ceremony as well as the planting of a tree by Prime Minister Rowley in Mr Padmore’s honour.

The day then continued with a guided tour of the Atuabo Gas Processing Facility, which is owned by the Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas).

Following this tour, the delegation moved on to the town of Elmina where they were treated to another guided tour, this time of the Elmina Castle which was used as a facility for the holding and shipping of slaves.

Prior to the commencement of the guided tour of the Elmina Castle, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the village chief, as is the custom in this part of Africa.

The day ended with the Prime Minister meeting with Trinidad and Tobago and other CARICOM citizens residing in Ghana.

Tomorrow, (Wednesday 11th May 2016), will mark the final day of the Ghana leg of this official overseas trip.
