The Principals and Teachers of Sangre Grande Government Secondary and Guaico Presbyterian Primary Schools and Holy Cross College came in for high praises on Wednesday 20th March, 2019 when a team of Senior Executives from the Ministry of Education visited their schools.
The Honourable Anthony Garcia, Minister of Education, Dr. the Honourable Lovell Francis, Minister of State in the MOE, Chief Education Officer, Harrilal Seecharran and a team of School Supervisors and Curriculum Officers from the North Eastern Education District engaged the principals and their staff on issues relating to the management of these schools. Very candid and lively discussions were held around the schools improvement plans, regularity and punctuality, disciple, School Based Management, curriculum delivery and strategies being implemented to improve literacy and numeracy.
Commenting on the visits, Minister Anthony Garcia said he was very impressed with the commitment of the teachers and the way the schools are being managed, thus their academic success and achievements in extra-curricular activities. He praised the teachers at Guaico Presbyterian Primary School for maintaining high academic standards and also for being crowned National Schools Junior Panorama Champions 2019.
The high level of discipline exhibited by students at Sangre Grande Government Secondary School was also highlighted. While at Holy Cross College, the team was briefed about the construction of a new ‘Six Form Science Block.’ This facility will see a greater intake of Six Form students and also the school expanding to offer business related subjects.
Since the start of 2019, the MOE Officials along with other stakeholders such as the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) and the National Parent Teachers Association (NPTA) have visited several schools in the Port of Spain and Environs, St. George East and Caroni Education Districts and held discussions with principals, teachers and students.
