March 15, 2016: The Central Bank has pledged greater support for initiatives in Tobago aimed at financial education, and other related corporate responsibility projects.
This was disclosed by Secretary of Finance and Enterprise Development, Mr Joel Jack at last week’s post Executive Council media briefing at the Administrative Complex, Calder Hall. The Secretary met recently with senior Central Bank officials, including deputy governor Sandra Sookram, who promised the Bank’s support for THA activities such as the Know Your Money Series and other venture education outreach programmes.
Jack said other projects will see greater collaboration with the bank.
“Both organisations have agreed to share vital statistical data and to deepen the research between all research units of the Tobago House of Assembly and the Central Bank,” he said. The Division will
also have greater access to “valuable” Central Bank statistics, Jack stated. “This will assist us in having providing data that will inform policy making and decision making in the assembly for
specific sectors,” Jack said.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed the shortage of foreign exchange in Tobago, which has impacted many of the island’s businesses.
