The Water and Sewerage Authority (the Authority) wishes to remind customers and members of the public that the existing Water Use Restrictions and revised water supply schedules that were implemented in keeping with the Authority’s Water Supply Management Plan during the 2019 Dry Season, remain in effect.
Notwithstanding the commencement of the 2019 Wet Season as declared by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service, the intermittent showers experienced thus far, have had no discernable impact on the levels at the Authority's four main impounding reservoirs. The following table illustrates the current levels at each reservoir in comparison to the long term average (LTA) for the same time of year:
Reservoir | Current % Capacity | LTA % Capacity |
HOLLIS | 19.53% | 43.25% |
CARONI ARENA | 29.03% | 49.22% |
NAVET | 17.41% | 42.67% |
HILLSBOROUGH | 35.33% | 52.91% |
Notably, all four reservoirs are below the long term averages and will require consistent periods of rainfall in the coming months, in order to achieve full storage in preparation for the 2020 Dry Season. The Authority continues to manage available water resources including maximisation of production at sources not immediately impacted by rainfall (including groundwater and desalination) and redistribution from sources.
Customers and the public are encouraged to continue to employ strict water conservation measures in their daily water use and as the Wet Season progresses, the Authority will provide updates.
