Thirty officers from the Social Welfare Division took up the mantle to become Project Champions in a workshop on Tuesday 30 July 2019 at the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services’s National Enrichment Centre, Carlsen Field Chaguanas.
The initiative is part of the Ministry’s ongoing goal to become a customer-focused, high performance organization. The project champions will be required to work together to implement the Ministry’s projects and activities related to one of the main service delivery Divisions of the Ministry, the Social Welfare Division.
Delivering opening remarks, Permanent Secretary Jacinta Bailey-Sobers told the champions that though the task does not carry a promotional or materialistic reward, she hopes it will inspire the participants and result in self-fulfilment as the contribute to the positive transformation of the Division.
“As project champions, you will be required to be charismatic in reminding naysayers that not every transformation begins with new goals, but rather with new approaches to old challenges”, PS Bailey-Sobers continued.
Project champion Kendra Chutkhan also addressing attendees welcomed the opportunity and thanked the Ministry’s Executive for incorporating lower level staff in the exciting initiative.
Some of the service improvement initiatives the project champions will be working to implement include but are not limited to the:-
- Development and implementation of a document receipt “ticket system”
- Development and implementation of a system to collect data on customer satisfaction
- Design and delivery of a comprehensive Orientation Programme for new recruits to the Social Welfare Division and the
- Development and delivery of a customer Service Programme for staff of the Social Welfare Division.
The Project Champion initiative is the latest project of the Diagnostic Assessment & Service Improvement Project to improve the key business processes and social service delivery for the Social Welfare Division. The project is a collaborative one involving the Ministries of Social Development and Family Services and Public Administration.
