The National Archives of Trinidad and Tobago’s (NATT) will hold two exhibitions on Saturday 24 August 2019 at Digicel IMAX Theatre.
The exhibitions are titled Our African Legacy: Roots and Routes and Celebrating the Merikins: our heritage, our faith, our future.
The two exhibitions support the National Archives of Trinidad and Tobago’s (NATT) efforts to fulfil the objective of the International Decade, “… to promote a greater knowledge of and respect for the diverse heritage, culture and contribution of the people of African descent to the development of societies.”
It is also part of NATT’s wider mandate to build an inclusive history and archives for Trinidad and Tobago.
On the same day the exhibitions are held (24 August 2019), the NATT is collaborating with Afrika House and the Merikins Heritage Foundation for the screening of the film Bigger than Africa. The events begin at 7:00 pm.
The exhibitions and the film are part of the NATT’s commemoration of the International Decade for People of African Descent (2015-2024) and the UN Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition.
