The Municipal Police Service together with the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government celebrated the 57th Independence of Trinidad and Tobago today.

After a well decorated contingent from the Municipal Police Service marched at the Independence Military Parade at the Queen’s Park Savannah, officers from all fourteen municipalities gathered at the Ministry’s compound at Kent House, Maraval to raise a final toast to the nation.

Minister Hosein congratulated all the participants for their meticulous performance saying, “Today I feel a great sense of pride, not only because we are celebrating Independence Day but because of your achievement. The growth and development of the Municipal Police Service has been my mandate since taking office.”

Minister Hosein reinforced the importance of community policing throughout the country and praised officers in attendance for their dedication and service to the nation. He continued “Whatever you need, I will fight for you to get. The Municipal Police has my full support.”

As he continued his toast to the Municipal Police Constables and trainees, he highlighted that over seventy (70) officers were shot at in the past year although most of these incidents were never reported. He encouraged them to respect their families because in their line of work they never know what will happen to them. He urged them to do their work with love and to be courteous to citizens.

Also in attendance at the celebration was His Worship the Mayor of Port-of-Spain, Joel Martinez, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry, Ms. Desdra Bascombe, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Brian Headley as well as other officials from the ministry and the police service
