May 23, 2016: His Excellency Nicolás Maduro Moros, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela left Trinidad and Tobago after bilateral meetings with Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Keith Rowley.
When asked at the press conference about the earlier bilateral discussions, President Maduro stated that the meeting with PM Rowley and the TT delegation was extraordinary.
Speaking at a joint press conference held at the Diplomatic Centre in St. Ann’s- PM Rowley said that the TT Government was very pleased to receive President Maduro and his large delegation.
PM Rowley stated that Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela have agreed to repatriate citizens on both sides of the border and that there will be a Joint Security Meeting between both countries to be held in Caracas on Monday where collaborative efforts to fight drug trafficking will be addressed among other topics.
Also coming out of the meeting was an agreement to direct energy companies on cross border initiatives. Prime Minister Rowley stated that Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela discussed and agreed to tapping into the natural gas reserves along maritime borders.
