The Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government said that various agencies have been working together to closely monitor the Piparo Mud Volcano.
Following increased geological activity, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM), Disaster Management Units of the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government, the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) and the Geological Society of Trinidad and Tobago have been monitoring the situation.
Additionally, both the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo and Princes Town Regional Corporations have pledged their support to Piparo residents.
Citizens are being warned to stay away from the immediate area surrounding the mud volcano. As an active zone, it poses a threat to persons who venture close.
