The Minister of Education, the Honourable Mr. Anthony Garcia attended a football tournament at the St. Paul's Street Recreation Ground in Laventille on Friday 1st November, 2019.
The Minister wishes to thank the Ministry of National Security and the Inter Agency Task Force, Hearts and Minds in particular for organising this event. Six of the eight primary schools that participated in the tournament are involved in the Laventille Morvant Schools' Improvement Project.
This is an initiative of the Prime Minister, Dr. The Honourable Keith Rowley aimed at improving the academic performance and discipline of the students and the parenting skills of their parents.
The Ministry of National Security is a major stakeholder of the MOE in our efforts to make our schools and communities in which they exist safe zones where teaching and learning can take place effectively.
The Honourable Minister also took the opportunity to spend an hour with the staff and students of the Bethlehem Girls Government Primary School where he visited each classroom and spoke to and encouraged the students. They were delighted. This school has also benefitted from the Laventille Morvant project. A lot of infrastructural work has been done. The premises are well kept and the school was peaceful even though they didn't know of the Minister's visit beforehand. The schools, community and stakeholders will all agree that it was a day well spent.
