Port-of-Spain: On November 1, 2019, forty-four (44) persons graduated from the Caregivers Training Programme offered by the Office of the Prime Minister in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Registered Nurses Association.
To date, ninety-two (92) caregivers have been trained to provide care and protection to children residing at Community Residences. The Programme provides participants with the necessary competencies, skill-sets and techniques required to care for children in alternative care at children’s home. The Programme reinforces the need for adults to build healthy, supportive and meaningful relationships with children based on trust.
The Honourable Ayanna Webster-Roy, Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister in her feature address reminded the graduands “that while they work steadfastly to ensure the children achieve their fullest potential, they must maintain a balance and healthy self-care regime”. In addition, Minister Webster-Roy lauded the men who have stepped up to challenge of being Caregivers which by their acquiesce “dismantles those chains of toxic hegemonic masculinities and these stereotypes which suffocate the vital contribution our men are destined to play in the healthy development of our children and families.”
The Office of the Prime Minister continues to ensure that the rights of the child are safeguarded as enshrined in the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC). This year marks the 30 th anniversary of the CRC’s which will be internationally celebrated on World Children’s Day on November 20, 2019.
