St. James Youth Facility Celebrates its 1st Graduating Class

May 30, 2016: On Thursday 19th May 2016, the Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, The Honourable Darryl Smith, delivered the feature address to the 2016 graduating class, who successfully completed courses in balloon craft, plumbing, floral arrangement and ballroom and Latin dancing at the St. James Youth Facility.

 

Minister Smith stated, that he was impressed with the work displayed by the 56 graduates and spoke of the importance of utilizing the youth facilities and implementing programmes, which communities can benefit from. He noted that by engaging young people in activities offered by not only this facility, but all youth facilities, will allow young people to channel their energy in a positive way. The Minister strongly believes that “development is not only in the construction of buildings  but emphasis ought to be placed on building our youth as young people are our greatest resource and as a country, we need to invest in them.”

 

The Minister reopened the St. James Youth Facility to the public on 25th February 2016 and officially launched the activities. The facility offers free courses in adult numeracy and literacy, computer literacy for children, dance, aerobics, household plumbing, balloon craft, and floral arrangement.
