A school environment that is safe and comfortable, where all children have equitable access to a quality education in a school that is managed effectively, is the goal of the Ministry of Education as we celebrate Universal Children’s Day 2019. Guided by the principles of quality, access, equity and good governance, major emphasis has been placed on inclusion for all children in the nation’s schools.
My wish for all children on Universal Children’s Day would be that all children, no matter their level of ability, learning style or challenge, would be able to receive a quality education at any school in Trinidad and Tobago. I want to continue to work toward building a system that will allow for equity in education where every child is able to get what he/she needs to succeed.
Having recently awarded four (400) state-sponsored scholarships based on academic performance to students, the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago continues to emphasise a commitment and investment in youth. From Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) to tertiary studies through the Government Assisted Tuition Expenses (GATE) programme and the awarding of scholarships, holistically developed citizens, remains a major objective of the Ministry.
This goal is only achievable through partnership and the support of every citizen of this country. Education is everyone’s business and responsibility. I want to appeal to everyone to work with the Ministry of Education to uplift our young people. Today and every other day empower and inspire a child to be the change needed for Trinidad and Tobago. Our greatest assets are our youth and as such, they must be cherished and valued.
