In 2019, the Cabinet appointed Bailiff Committee of the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs embarked upon a series of Public Education Sessions targeting the public and private sectors.

Entitled, THE ESSENTIALS: PRIVATE BAILIFF LAW AND PRACTICE, the sessions marked successful collaborations with stakeholders including the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago (LATT) and Association of Real Estate Agents (AREA).

During the period November 12th and 13th, 2019, the committee turned the spotlight to Tobago where licensed private bailiffs, members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) and other stakeholders were exposed to a number of topical and practical matters of interest.

Participants benefitted from learning the introductory legal aspects of property management, the regulatory regime governing private bailiffs, the practical aspects of private bailiff exercises, the role of the Ministry of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs and the Registrar of the Supreme Court.  They also engaged in valuable dialogue on the lawful interaction between Private Bailiffs and officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and the impact of Tobago culture.  Notably, the sessions also marked the first public discussion on the reform of the regulatory regime and the future role of stakeholders such as the TTPS.

The Bailiff Committee remains resolute in its mandate by the Cabinet. As these consultations and Public Education Sessions continue, the Committee looks forward to the continued support of its stakeholders.
