The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services hosted its third annual Children’s Christmas party for the children of staff members and children from the Point-A-Pierre and Edingburgh Special Schools on Sunday December 8, 2019. The event was held at the Ministry’s Inter-Disciplinary Child Development Centre in Couva.
Funded via the staff at the Ministry, who also donated toys for underprivileged children, the Ministry was able to treat approximately fifty (50) children to games, eats and drinks. Santa Claus, who arrived on a Fire Truck, also handed out early Christmas presents to children and took the opportunity to pose for photos with toddlers and youngsters alike.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry, Jacinta Bailey-Sobers, addressed the gathering and encouraged all to focus on the true meaning of Christmas, Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world. She noted the things we do around Christmas counts, but reiterated that Christmas is about the birth of Jesus Christ and as we give gifts this year to remember that He is the greatest gift to all of us.
Mrs Bailey-Sobers indicated that the Ministry continues to seek avenues and opportunities to sensitize the public and advocate for further engagement and interaction with children with disabilities. She applauded the efforts of the staff to contribute to the event and reminded those present that such gestures are all in keeping with the caring role of the Ministry. She ended by wishing all those present a happy, holy Christmas and a bright and prosperous New Year.
