June 2, 2016: Signal Hill residents are complaining about the level of music emanating from bars in the area. They used the opportunity at the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’s town meeting in the area on May 25 to voice their displeasure with the noise, which they claim is very disruptive.
Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, Garfield Moore, said he has challenged one bar’s attempt to alter its license, which he said was still granted.
He said police are looking very closely at the issue in Signal Hill, with two bars in particular. “We are monitoring that this year to ensure that if they go to the court in Tobago, that they don’t have an alteration of their present license. In addition to that, we are looking at those bars right now, because we had Corporal Paul from the EMA here last Friday, and we are going to deal with those bars specifically.”
In the meantime, Moore said, the police will be monitoring the noise levels of the bars. He said if the bars exceed these levels, they can be shut down.
