The Head of the Funding and Grants Administration Division (FGAD), which is charged with the responsibility for the management of the Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses Programme (GATE) under the Ministry of Education is assuring the Guild and the University of the West Indies (UWI) that it is working to complete outstanding applications from students seeking approvals to access financial assistance.
Senior officials of the FGAD are mindful of the concerns raised and have effected special arrangements for staff members to complete the process in order to mitigate the delays in GATE approvals, specifically the Means Test Rate.
The delays in the processing of GATE application were occasioned by the provision of stale dated financial information, omissions in household income and submission of incorrect documents as proof of income and staff constraints.
The Funding and Grants Administration Division (FGAD wishes to assure the Guild and the University of the West Indies (UWI) that every effort is being made to minimise the disruption to students and resolve this issue in the shortest possible time.
