MIC Institute of Technology (MIC-IT) instated 68 trainees as Student Guild members during its 2nd annual Student Guild Inauguration ceremony on January 9, 2020 at MIC-IT’s Head Office in Macoya. Following the Student Guild elections in November last year, Centre Council members were elected for each of the MIC-IT's Technology Centres, for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Public Relations Officer. Zonal Guild elections for the North and South were also held on the inauguration day.
Opening the ceremony, was MIC-IT’s General Manager (Ag), Training, Nathan Langaigne who welcomed the trainees and congratulated them for volunteering to be the voice of and to serve the student population. Sharing her experiences as a former Guild President of the University of the West Indies, Dr. Katija Khan, now a Clinical Psychology Lecturer at UWI’s Faculty of Medical Sciences, commended the Guild Council for embarking on a journey of leadership and service. She also challenged them to think about the legacy they would like to leave behind.
Congratulations were also in order for the 16 Sponsors who volunteered to act as Student Guild mentors representing each Technology Centre. The Sponsors recited their own pledge to the growth and development of the Trainees by being exemplars of professionalism, respect and responsibility. Assistant General Manager, Training, Candice Austin, described the Student Guild as “the bridge between MIC-IT’s Administration and the student body” which facilitates linkages and relationships with key stakeholders. Its motto - ‘Spirit, Leadership, Service’, symbolizes the thrust for student advocacy, representation and expression. More importantly, it provides an opportunity for trainees to contribute to the shaping of a memorable training experience and an atmosphere that is conducive to growth and learning.
