June 10, 2016: There are benefits to having the Tourism Standing Committee, on which Tobago is well represented. That, according to Chief Secretary Orville London, who said he, along with Secretary of Tourism and Transportation Tracy Davidson-Celestine and Chief Administrator Raye Sandy are all on the Committee.
London said the newly re-established body will help Trinidad and Tobago deal with a number of tourism-related challenges.
“…What the standing committee did in the past, and what I expect it will do,” he explained, “is that it would be able to bring in representatives from various agencies, whether it is immigration, or customs or national security, so that a number of opportunities available to the industry, you almost have a one-stop approach to it, and these situations can be dealt with very quickly.”
The Chief Secretary said more efficient coordination by the Committee will also prevent both islands competing for the same tourists.
