June 14, 2016: After observing the declining populations of the island’s endangered species, Tobagonian Roy Corbin got inspired to open a nature park.
Chief Secretary Orville London said Corbin’s Wildlife Park, which was officially opened on June 9, 2016 does more than showcase the island’s animals.
“It’s about preservation, it’s about preserving our animal life but it’s also about preserving our way of life,” Chief Secretary Orville London said at the launch. “It’s about appreciation because a number of us as Tobagonians don’t fully appreciate the bountiful gifts that nature has bestowed up on us.”
London said the initiative is also about entrepreneurship.
“One lesson I want Tobagonians to take every time they come to this place, is not just about the animals, not just about the scenery but what one man, one family, one community can do if they have the necessary, not just the resources, the necessary aptitude in order to translate that vision into reality."
