NPO delights audience in lunchtime concert at NALIS

July 20, 2016: The National Philharmonic Orchestra (NPO) delighted members of the public with a lunchtime concert outside the National Library in Port of Spain on Tuesday July 19, 2016.   The event, which started promptly at 12 noon, was aimed at introducing students and the general public in Port of Spain and environs to orchestral music, while enlightening them about the various career options available for professional performers in the creative industry.

Under the musical direction of Roger Henry, the orchestra put a classical spin on a few local songs with a repertoire which included: “God Bless Our Nation”; “Old Lady Walk a Mile and a Half”; “Progress” sung by King Austin and “Bring Down The Power” sung by Ella Andall.

Dr The Honourable Nyan Gadsby-Dolly, Minister of Community Development, Culture and the Arts was also present at the concert, along with the Director, Culture Division, Ingrid Ryan-Ruben.

Forged from the Love of Liberty arranged by Roger Henry

Schubert Unfinished Symphony Movement 1 by Franz Schubert 

God Bless Our Nation by Majorie Padmore, arranged by Henry (Brass Ensemble)

Ole Lady Walk A Mile by Lord Kitchener, arranged by Jeremy Chatoor (Winds Ensemble)

Progress by Winsford Devine, arranged by Roger Henry 

Graf Zeppelin by Attila the Hun, arranged by Roger Henry (winds ensemble)

The Gold in Africa by Growling Tiger, arranged by Roger Henry (brass ensemble)

Power by Ella Andall, arranged by Roger Henry (strings ensemble)

Stay Up Zimbabwe by Brother Valentino, arranaged by Rellon Brown

 

This event was part of the Brown Bag Series being hosted by the National Performing Arts Entities which fall under the Culture Division of the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts.
