July 26, 2016: The Community Mediation Services Division of the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts recently hosted a graduation ceremony for sixty-nine graduates from its Peer Mediation Programme comprising of nine students from the St. Jude’s Home for the Girls and sixty-one students from Toco Government Secondary School on July 22, 2016.  This initiative which is integral to the development of youths was initiated in October 2015.

Addressing graduates at the Toco Regional Complex, Beverly Harry-Emmanuel, the Executive Director of the Community Mediation Services Division commended the parents for supporting the students as they embarked on leadership and behavioural changes.  Furthermore, she implored students to “be the best that you can be and stand out in a positive way while making a positive change at school.”

A testimonial was given by Shenice Stephenson from the St. Jude’s Home for the Girls about the positive impact of the programme towards the resolution of conflicts in the dynamic environment. In addition, thirty-three graduates were installed as peer mediators.

Facilitated by Community Mediation Division, the programme seeks to educate students on the principles of mediation while providing our youth with the skills needed to generate alternate ideas for conflict resolution.
