March 18, 2016: March 15, 2016 marked the official recognition and commemoration of World Social Work Day.  The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, given its mandate as the core social sector Ministry charged with the responsibility for coordinating the implementation of Governments social and human development objectives, embraced the opportunity to highlight the value and contributions that the Social Workers attached to the Ministry make on a daily basis.

Under this year’s theme: ‘Promoting the Dignity and Worth of Peoples’ which relates to the second pillar of the Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development, the Ministry engaged in several activities to create awareness, promote its social programmes and services, as well as allow its clients and the public to interact intimately with the Social Workers.

Some of the various activities included an Open House and Display at all of the Ministry’s offices which started on March 18, 2016 and will continue throughout the month of March 2016.  Individuals and families are encouraged to come into the offices of the Ministry to update their records, to get information on how they may access Ministry programmes and services, and as a direct source of counselling for themselves and their families.

The Ministry will also be collaborating with several Government Ministries, agencies, Universities and civil society organizations for outreach at the local and community levels, during the entire month. Particularly the Social Workers will take the opportunity to highlight their profession and share on some of their experiences on the job.
