August 8, 2016: In keeping with the Ministry of National Security’s policy to provide development opportunities to the nation’s at risk youth, the Ministry’s Office of Law Enforcement Policy (OLEP) recently partnered with the Oratory Foundation Programme which culminated in a Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday 27 July 2016 at the Murchison Brown Auditorium, City Hall, Port of Spain.
Sixteen children ranging in age from seven (7) to twelve (12) years old and selected from Primary Schools, Homework Centres and Sunday Schools in the East Port of Spain area participated in the programme. The children were introduced to the principles of oral interpretation, dramatic poetry in performance, choral speaking, and the works of Shakespeare.
The Office of Law Enforcement Policy welcomed this partnership with the Oratory Foundation, as the Programme not only aimed to equip the participants with the salient skills necessary for effective oral expression and leadership but also served as a mechanism for the children to become immersed in content congruent with a positive life-course.
Speaking at the Graduation Ceremony, Deputy Director of the Office of Law Enforcement Policy, Mr. Curtis Belford lauded the Oratory Foundation for their commitment to the development of young people. He also commended other agencies of the Ministry of National Security, namely Operation Salvation, the Hearts and Minds Programme of the Inter-Agency Task Force and the Audio Visual Unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service who rendered much needed assistance in successfully facilitating the third edition of the Programme.
Mr. Belford praised the parents and guardians of the graduates for supporting their children’s participation in the programme and encouraged them to continue demonstrating strong support to their children’s development.
The Ministry of National Security is host to several youth-focused programmes under its remit such as the Trinidad and Tobago Cadet Force, the National Mentorship Programme, the Civilian Conservation Corps, the Military Led Academic Training Programme and the Citizen Security Programme. These programmes aim to provide our nation’s youth with the necessary skills and training to aid in their development as focused and productive citizens.
