August 14, 2016The Honourable Anthony Garcia, Minister of Education is assuring the members of the Anjuman Sunnat-ul-Jamaat Association (ASJA) Education Board and Parent Teachers’ Association (PTA) that the Ministry of Education will address infrastructural issues during the next school term at the ASJA Girls’ College in Tunapuna.

The assurance was given in a meeting held on Friday 12th August, 2016 with other senior Ministry officials and the ASJA delegation led by President General, Yacoob Ali at the Ministry’s Head Office, St. Clair.

One of the major problems that the delegation highlighted was the need to complete the construction of a roof which will stop leakage and water seeping into classrooms on lower floors. This structure will also resolve a second problem by providing additional classroom space to the college to offer CAPE classes to Form Six (A Level) students.  Mr. Ali proposed to complete the structure and subsequently seek reimbursement from the Ministry of Education for the construction works. Minister Garcia in his aim to promote education for all promised to look assiduously into the matter so that the children’s education will not be affected.

The school’s student population is approximately three hundred and sixty five (365) students with twenty three (23) teachers.

In attendance at the meeting were Permanent Secretary (Ag.) Lenor Baptiste-Simmons; Permanent Secretary (Ag.) Angela Sinaswee-Gervais; Chief Education Officer Harrilal Seecharan; Deputy Permanent Secretary Chanwati Sookra; Legal Officer II Raquel Birbal; Legal Officer II Sharda Narinesingh; Corporate Communications Manager Bibi Khan; ASJA Tunapuna Principal Rabiah Mohammed-Khan; Zainool Sarafat, Secretary of ASJA Board; Feraz Mohammed, School Manager; Laurelee Madeira-Williams, PRO of the PTA and Gerard Solomon, Committee Member of the PTA.
