Suriname Business School students visit Trade Ministry

August 15, 2016:- The Ministry of Trade and Industry hosted forty one (41) Second Year students and five (5) lecturers of the FHR School of Business, Suriname on Thursday 11 August, 2016 at the Ministry’s Port of Spain Head Office. The students, who are currently studying Business Management, Economics & Law and Commercial Economics, are on a week-long study trip in Trinidad and Tobago to learn about our economy, the influence of CARICOM on trade and the investment environment.

Ms. Karlene Roach, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Ag.), Ministry of Trade and Industry welcomed the students and urged them to ‘apply the information shared about Trinidad and Tobago to their various study programmes and projects’. She told the students that ‘given the current economic situation, the Government is focused on diversifying the economy with emphasis on key sectors which can stimulate increased economic activity’.

Ms. Simone Felter-Koole, Coordinator Education / Training Manager Business, FHR School of Business, Suriname stated that ‘our school sees Trinidad and Tobago as an ideal location for our students to gain good insight on trade and CARICOM because of your solid economic position in the Caribbean. The information shared was very informative and we are very grateful’.

The Ministry’s senior officers shared detailed presentations with the visiting delegation on the sectors targeted for diversification under the purview of the Ministry which includes (Maritime, Yachting, and the Creative Industry – Film, Fashion and Music); the trade agenda of Trinidad and Tobago and the investment mandate of the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Delivering the presentations were Ms. Donna De Four, Senior Economist, Trade Directorate; Mr. Mario Romany, Industry Specialist, Business Development Directorate; Ms. Analise Ali, Associate Professional, Investment Directorate and Ms. Reshana Singh, Associate Professional, Investment Directorate.
