August 19, 2016: “I am very grateful for all the information I have received here today, because I was able to find out about some things I never knew existed.” This was the remark of one participant who opted to remain anonymous as he exited the location at Brian Lara Promenade Port of Spain on August 12th, where the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services showcased its programmes and services during the final edition of outreaches hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
The series of community outreaches which were hosted across the country, focused on developing, among other things, a mutual relationship between law enforcement and communities to help determine and solve common social issues, including child abuse, cyber bullying and sexual diseases, as well as interventions for crime prevention, and available developmental opportunities related to life skills and job training.
Other participating agencies included were Families in Action, Civilian Conservation Corp, Radio Emergency Associated Communication Team, TTPS Child Protection Unit, Rape Crisis Society, TTPS Sober zone, Crime Stoppers, Rapport and The Inter-Agency Task Force.
Members of the public showed keen interest in the Targeted Conditional Cash Transfer Programme (TCCTP) TTCARD, and Social Welfare grants which were available from the Ministry. Persons were also interested in accessing the Sowing Empowerment through Entrepreneurial Development Grant (SEED) which is geared towards small business development. It was also an opportunity for staff at the Ministry to introduce new programmes and services which were now under the purview of the Ministry, including the Adult Education, the Geriatric Adolescent Partnership Programme (GAPP) and support services offered under the National Family Services Division.
The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, driven by its mandate to help, empower and transform lives, was pleased to partner with the TTPS in the series of outreaches made a positive impact on the communities visited.
