March 21, 2016: A Key Distribution Ceremony was hosted by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) in conjunction with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development on Saturday 19 March, 2016 at the Auditorium, Point Fortin Borough Corporation, 26-30 George Road, Mahaica, Point Fortin. The event began at 3:00pm.
Recipients were allocated housing units in developments within the La Brea/Point Fortin area, which were under construction since 2005, namely –
- Pier View, La Brea
- Southern Gardens
- La Fortune
The beneficiaries were overjoyed to finally receive keys to their own homes and start this journey of home ownership with their families. The newly appointed Minister of Housing and Urban Development, the Honourable Randall Mitchell joined his other colleagues present in praising former Minister, Ms. Marlene McDonald for the tremendous job she did in the Ministry over the last six months and particularly in ensuring these developments were ready for distribution to the redound of the residents of Point Fortin and environs.
Minister Mitchell was particularly delighted to be able participate in this event because of his ties to the Borough of Point Fortin, having spent some of his formative years there during his father, Victor Mitchell’s stewardship as Mayor Alderman during the period 2006 - 2010. The newly appointed Minister delivered the Feature Address and outlined Government’s policy and plans for the housing and construction sector in the immediate future.
Also in attendance were the Mayor of Point Fortin, His Worship Clyde Paul, Minister of National Security and MP for Point Fortin, Major General (Retired) the Honourable Edmund Dillon, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and MP for La Brea, the Honourable Nicole Olivierre, the High Commissioner of T & T to Jamaica with Accreditation to Haiti and Dominican Republic and former MP of La Brea, Fitzgerald Jefferies, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Ms. Simone Thorne-Mora, Chairman of the HDC, Mr. Newman George, Actg. Managing Director of the HDC, Mr. Brent Lyons and Mr. Francis Bertrand, former Mayor of Point Fortin. Entertainment for the event was provided by cultural ambassadors of Point Fortin.
