September 27, 2016: In light of the Information Bulletin issued earlier today by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Office about the prospect of adverse weather conditions later today and into Thursday, the Ministry is advising farmers and fisherfolk to take note of all warnings and advice provided by the Met Office and ODPM.
In the event of unusual rainfall, farmers are reminded to avoid flood prone areas during the course of your daily activities, until it is safe to do so. Farmers with animals are asked to take appropriate measures to remove their animals from risk, and provide access to food. These conditions are particularly dangerous to small ruminants.
Finally, boat owners, seafarers and other fisherfolk are also advised to pay attention to weather bulletins and exercise due care and attention in venturing out to sea. Vessels should be brought to safety until it is safe to go out.
Farmers and fisherfolk requiring emergency assistance are asked to contact the Disaster Preparedness Unit of their municipal corporation. The Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries will be monitoring all weather bulletins and conditions and will also provide support to the Disaster Management Units in the municipalities.
