October 7, 2016: The Tobago Regional Health Authority is seeking to reintroduce post graduate medical training in Tobago. The TRHA has been engaged in preliminary talks with a team from the University of the West Indies, Medical Sciences Faculty to discuss the issue. Acting Chief Executive Officer of the TRHA, Dr. Nathaniel Duke, said initial discussions are part of the overall vision for advancing the TRHA.
“Part of our mandate at the TRHA is for the advancement of training on the island. This brings the Scarborough General Hospital closer to becoming a true university-affiliated training facility, which will enhance delivery of care to the public,” Duke said.
UWI Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Professor Terence Seemungal said the training will bring the TRHA on par with other regional health authorities with collaboration of this type.
The post graduate training programmes will include nursing, obstetrics and gynecology, pathology, medicine and surgery.
