Update on Trinidad and Tobago Nationals in Brussels after terror attacks

March 23, 2016: The following is a release issued by the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs regarding the safety of TT nationals in Brussels, Belgium following a March 22 terrorist attack at an airport and metro station:

 

The Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs has been liaising with the Embassy for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in Brussels, Belgium to ensure that all nationals of Trinidad and Tobago who are in Brussels are safe and aware of the measures implemented by the Government of Belgium in response to the terrorist attacks at the Zaventem airport and the Maelbeek metro station which took place earlier today (Tuesday March 22, 2016). Belgium’s terror threat level has been raised to level 4 – a serious and imminent threat, which is the highest state of alert.

 

All members of staff of the Embassy are reported safe and security measures have been implemented to ensure their continued protection. Nationals within the diaspora who are registered with the Embassy are also reported to be safe. The Embassy has encouraged all nationals to be vigilant and to adhere to the increased security measures. Nationals have also been advised that they may contact the Embassy in the event of any emergency.
