October 20, 2016: Petrotrin is today concerned by protest action impacting work activity throughout its fields and in the Pointe-a-Pierre refinery. This action was initiated following an internal release published on 2016 October 18 advising of the reorganization within the Security Department.
We cannot afford any disruption to our operations as we need all hands on deck to maintain safe, secure and reliable operations. At this critical juncture, as Petrotrin’s operations are subjected to intense scrutiny from stakeholders including our insurers, bondholders, credit rating agencies and the Shareholder among others, any approach other than to maximize operations presents a serious threat to our future as a sustainable entity.
To alleviate any concerns which may have arisen following the publishing of the memorandum, we seek to clarify the following:
Petrotrin has accelerated its review of the Company’s vulnerability assessments and security plans.
In addition to the above, and as agreed following meetings with the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) on Monday, 2016 October 17, Petrotrin has launched a separate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the passing of Mr. Curtis Pierre who committed suicide after trespassing onto our Pointe Ligoure Tank Farm, Point Fortin on 2016 October 8. To ensure transparency, Petrotrin’s Chief Security Officer, will not be involved in this particular investigation. Additionally, the Company has requested nominees from the OWTU, the Estate Police Association and the Ministry of National Security to participate in the investigation. It is our hope that this team can be established with the representatives from all parties identified by the end of the workday today.
Mr. Rawle Sylvester, Security Administrator Special Services will assume the responsibilities and authorities of the Chief Security Officer during the period of the investigation.
We recognise and thank all employees for their continued understanding and support as we work together to limit the impact of disruptions to our operations.
