November 27, 2016:
A wide range of organic food descended upon early morning patrons on Saturday 26th November, 2016 as NAMDEVCO’s popular Farmers’ Market moved to the agricultural heartland of Chaguanas, at a venue no better suited than the compound of the new corporate head office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries.
The promise of this market came just under two (2) weeks ago by Senator the Honourable Clarence Rambharat, Minister of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries – as he reflected on the successes of NAMDEVCO’s recently executed farmers’ markets in Santa Cruz and the Queen’s Park Savannah – whilst speaking at a lease distribution ceremony hosted by Caroni (1975) Limited on Tuesday 15th November, 2016. He saw the venture as a very lucrative exercise which stood to benefit the livelihoods of rural farming communities as he hinted on the possibility of moving the initiative to the southland.
The Endeavour Road venue, which opened its doors from as early as 6:00 a.m., was attended by the Ministry’s Parliamentary Secretary, Senator Avinash Singh and Permanent Secretary (Ag.), Ms. Angela Siew as well as NAMDEVCO’s Chief Executive Officer (Ag.), Mr. Ayoub Mohammed.
