December 5, 2016: More than 43 students who excelled at their Secondary Entrance Examinations in March 2016, from primary schools within Port of Spain and environs, were recently awarded start up bank accounts in varying amounts depending on their S.E.A. Composite Scores, by En ToTo, a non-Governmental Organization, through their Performance Incentive Programme for Students (PIPS). Subsequent to this, the students will be taught financial independence and money management while being encouraged to maintain and or improve their academic performance.

This event, which was held at City Hall, Port of Spain on Wednesday 23rd November, 2016 was attended by the Coordinator of MSDF’s NGO Unit Ann- Marie Quammie-Alleyne. In her address to the students, their parents, teachers and well-wishers, Ms Quammie-Alleyne commended En ToTo on their suite of services which are geared towards positive development in youth and aligned this function with that of the Ministry’s NGO Unit, which also provides institutional strengthening to support NGO development.

Also, an additional 16 students under EN ToTo’s PIPS program who are set to complete Secondary school, were also awarded through the Organization’s Youth Ambassadors’ Programme. These students will tour two New York-based community Colleges in February 2017 and will be given the opportunity to present their transcripts with prospects of gaining entry.

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services was pleased to be part of this initiative which is geared towards encouraging the nation’s youth to establish and maintain academic goals that are aligned to performance excellence.
