
March 31, 2016: On Thursday March 31, Cabinet agreed to the following:
The appointment of five government representatives to the Trinidad and Tobago Boxing Board of Control.
The board would now comprise of:
Chairman - Mr. Barry Ishmael
Members - Mr. Terry Young, Mr. Symon de Nobriga, Ms. Cleopatra Borel and Dr. Rochelle Mohammed
The approval of a ten-point plan to assist jobless citizens by providing immediate, short and medium term support to mitigate against the negative effects associated with unemployment. This reflects Government’s response to recent events in the labour market as Government moves to assist and empower unemployed persons in Trinidad and Tobago.
The National Employment Services Division of the Ministry of Labour and Small Enterprise Development will lead in the coordination of activities with collaboration from State agencies to incorporate a ‘whole of Government’ approach as well as other key stakeholders. Key agencies involved include:
o Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts
o Ministry of Education
o Ministry of Health
o Ministry of Social Development and Family Services
o Ministry of Trade and Industry
o The National Insurance Board
o Trinidad and Tobago Mortgage Finance Company Ltd.
o The Bankers Association of Trinidad and Tobago
o The Credit Union League of Trinidad and Tobago
o United Nations Development Programme
o The International Labour Organisation Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean
o The Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago
o National Energy Skills Centre
o The American Chamber of Commerce
o Elder and Associates Ltd.
The plan also includes the development of a marketing campaign focused on soliciting new job opportunities, facilitating job-matching skills and skills training. Psychological and financial counseling will also be provided to unemployed persons and their families through the Ministry of Health.
On Tuesday 5th April the first Job Empowerment Expo will be held at the National Energy Skills Centre, Rivulet Road, Couva.
