January 31, 2017:

The mandate of the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, is to be the Government’s safety net for the vulnerable in our society.  It is against this background, that the support of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) aligns with the Ministry’s core function of helping, empowering and transforming lives; through engagement and collaboration with civil society groups and organizations.

PAVI has been the recipient of a subvention from the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services since 2009. However, the last approval for the subvention ended in December 2015.

In accordance with the stipulated procedures, at the end of the approved period of the subvention, PAVI was requested to submit documentation to enable consideration of the provision of a subvention for an additional period. In August 2016, the Ministry met with PAVI on this matter and to date, the information requested has not been forthcoming.

In December 2015, the Minister of Social Development and Family Services met with PAVI and discussions were held on a range of issues. It is her intention to meet with them on February 2, 2017 to resolve the matter at hand.

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services remains committed to providing the necessary support to all registered NGOs in the service of Trinidad and Tobago.
