April 5, 2016: Tobago is making a significant contribution to the national economy during Easter through its cultural traditions. This was declared by Secretary of Community Development and Culture, Dr. Denise Tsoiafatt-Angus, who said events like the Buccoo Goat and Crab Race Festival continue to be an attraction across the island, and for visitors.
“From what we have seen over the island for Easter, it certainly is a time for us to proudly believe that we have contributed significantly to the economy through the cultural and creative aspects that we put on during the Easter festivities,” Dr. Tsoiafatt-Angus said.
She also praised the Buccoo Village Council for its continued success despite the challenges it has faced. “To their credit,” the Secretary said, “they have made it into the largest indigenous community festival on the island, and for that we are grateful.”
